For those of you who actually followed me I give you props and thank you for looking at my artwork. I'm not the most consistant person around, and my postings have been sporadic at best.
I'll be moving to a new blog at Kaa-Tani Illustration. This is for many reasons, one of which is a fresh new start. So check it out and we'll see you around.

Decisions,new nieces, and goals

Been a while since I've had time to write here. Unfortunately that also means I haven't had time for new artwork. Still I can't complain it's been an exciting time. Christmas, temp jobs, and a beautiful new niece coming into the world Thursday. So I can't really say that I haven't done anything. Just things beyond artwork and looking for a job.

I have also been working on goals, and deciding what I want in life. New Year and such has put me in that mood. Also the shotgun approach I've been taking to job hunting hasn't panned out too well. I finally figured it was because I still am not sure what I want to do for a living and what my goals are for my life. So I'm spending time reflecting and working on those. Once I have a goal then I might be better able to decide what will help me reach that. To that end I've been scouring the internet and also talking with friends and family to try and figure out my life goals. So far a few good things have popped up, but still a long way to go.

Along those lines one of my friends was talking about advertising and imaging. We were trying to figure out what I was going to sell myself as. To that end, one of the things I am going to do is move to a new blog and look into making a new website. It'll be while, so in the mean time I'll still be posting here till it is all up and running. Sometimes it is a good thing to start over. You don't lose as much as you would think by doing it. You get to keep all the knowledge you gained along the way and repurpose it more effectively by not having to make all the same mistakes. Besides it fun to see how it all turns out.

It's interesting how two unrelated things can some how end up being connected to one another, like screen printing and cancer.

A family member recently was diagnosed with cancer, and they wanted a way for the family to spread awareness and also enable them to show their support. Hense the screen printing. Also around the same time another member of the family was diagnosed with a different type of cancer. They asked my wife and I to design the shirts, one for each family and the other for the whole family to wear. This is what we came up with for the ribbon design. The first if for each individual type of cancer, and the second is a double ribbon shirt to show support for both members of the family.

Along the way we even learned how to do screen printing cold turkey. We messed up the first couple of times, but we finally got it down. I think the shirts turned out pretty good. When we can get some pictures taken I'll post them so you can see the end result.

New direction, and some unlooked for advice

So I spent the past few days re-evaluating the resume project I was working on, and have decided to drop it. As cool as the "action figure" resume would be, it's just taking to long. I've had to learn and teach myself everything I have done to it. On top of which there have been countless hours of research into how to visually represent myself on the darn thing. So time and circumstances have make it pretty clear I should stop working on this for now, and move on. Oh well, I still learned a lot. So at least I'm not leaving empty handed. Now to make a "normal" resume.
As I was thinking about the things I should put into my resume I happened to stumble across this bit of advice from The Art of Nonconformity blog, check it out and see what it is.

Excuses, Proof, Projects, and Hidden Treasures

It's been a few weeks, they have been productive.

First here's some sketches for projects I've been working on. Top two were for some book art, the second is a self-portrait I made for a action figure resume. Still designing it out so we'll see how it looks in the end.

Second I rediscovered some old websites and podcast that I had downloaded, but never listened to. They offer some amazing advice which I'm trying to use now. I reccomend them for anyone who is a creative, or looking for a jump start to their life. Check it out.

Illustration Friday: Swept

I love designing environments. The idea of a nomad in the high rocky places gave me the idea for this one. I wanted to try my hand at doing this in a style similar to the "Dream Sequence" from Kung Fu Panda. Skadoosh!

So surfing the the web today, and I came across an amazing environmental artist, this guy. All I can say is, blown away. Some of these sketches are done in under an hour! Guess I better get practicing.

Life and Lemons

There are just some days when life throws all the inadequacies you feel right into your face. All those things that pull you down, that say you can't do it.
Still there are things that can pull you out of the funk. I don't know what it would be for you. For me it's several things.
Today I leave you with a quote from one of my favorite games, Portal 2, take it away Mr. Johnson!

Inspiration and Just Plain Awesome

Check out these two books from two of my favorite shows. I love reading the creation process that the creators go through, and of course the art work is just amazing. I found both on Amazon.com. I highly recommend the Art of Kung Fu Panda 2, everything about this book is just beautiful. If your an artist of any kind it is a book worth looking at.

Doodles and Sketches

Some pics from my sketchbook. I like to draw different people from different nationalities. Each has its own characteristics that make them who they are. At the same time though, each person is completely different with in that nationality. It's fun to see what you come up with. Half the time when I'm doing these doodles I don't even know how it will turn out till its finished.

So keep an eye out these may pop up in a "more complete" form later on.

Project: Creative Perspective

This particular class was all about perspective. We learned all the nuances of environmental design. While designing some cool back grounds along the way. The first is a 2 point view of destruction. The second is of a 3 point epic scale. The last one is a 2 point view of a villains lair, I chose a witch doctor. (hense the shrunken heads and voodoo dolls)

Project: Robin Hood

Here is a project from a few semesters back. The class was a crash course in visual entertainment. We were the "visual development team" for the project. Which involved reading The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, and then designing backgrounds, characters, props, etc. for the different scenes in the book. The first one was from a scene where Robin Hood had to face a particularly nasty specimen of mankind, Guy of Guisbourne. The last two are from a scene where Robin helped a knight who was in trouble named Sir Richard. These scenes are of the knight right before he is seen by Robin Hood.

Project: Water Color

One of the last classes of my college career. I really enjoyed learning how to use watercolor. I think it may be my favorite traditional medium so far. Future plans with this include a daily or weekly watercolor landscape sketch. Got the idea from Nathan Fowkes, an illustrator from Dreamworks, that visited college that last semester. He had the goal to do a sketch a day and has been going strong for a year now.

For one of my classes we had to use a website called Illustration Friday, which gave a word of the week and then we had to come up with an illustration to fit that word. I can't rightly remember what the words were for these pictures, but they still are quirky and random.

So Here's the first of many repost of my art work. I decided to do this in bunches rather than individual pieces, since they are already on my web site.
Any way this was from a project where we had to make up our own bugs. I settled on a Hopi design since I really like the graphic nature.

New Look, New Website, Still Random

Finally I have had the time to get all this organized. For one I have officially decided that I will stay with blogger, because I can customize this thing for free rather than having to pay for such a convenience. Plus I just plain like it better. I have also started up a website, now to get all them pesky pictures and sketches on there... More on that when it is up an running. In the meantime heres a link for you that had some advice that I found to be right up my alley.

How to Steal Like an Artist

So graduated and now establishing a presence on the internets. I'm redoing my blog, trying to decide which would be better this one or wordpress. We'll get it all figured out, plus I want to redo my posts and everything that is on here any way.
